The Gay Train | Yellow Mug Theatre | Edinburgh Fringe
June each year sees the celebration of pride month. All companies transform their logos into colourful rainbow as a tribute to allyship with the LGBTQ+ Rights movement. Of course there are always companies which push the boundaries of promotion and June 2020 saw Avanti West Coat launch a special carriage manned by LGBT+ staff proudly boasting the biggest pride flag seen on the side of a train and making a statement about the equality and inclusion. But is this enough?

Molly Leigh-Moy & Carla Gordon: As Per My Previous Apology | Edinburgh Fringe
It is rare that I will take someone up on a flyer at the Fringe but after a brief chat with a woman in a colourful shirt who profusely complimented my equally as loud choice of top how could I refuse.

Iain Dale: All Talk with Rory Stewart | James Seabright in association with Northbank Speakers | Edinburgh Fringe
Let’s be honest, over the last 5 years the political landscape has shifted dramatically. It used to be a like a family gathering, which you didn’t really want to be part of but you would tolerate the chitter chatter of background noise so you could keep up with the gossip.

The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage | Bridge Theatre | NT Live
I can’t believe it was 18 years ago that I saw Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials from the National Theatre with incredible puppets provided by Blind Summit. I can still remember it vividly.

Saving Britney | Fake Escape | The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham
For those of us who grew up in the nineties and noughties, it is nigh-on impossible that Britney Spears hasn’t been on your radar at some point or another. And in recent times Britney has come back to the forefront of our minds with the rise in the #FreeBritney movement.

Kate Smurthwaite: The Last Major of Fihalhohi | Kate Smurthwaite
Kate Smurthwaite diverts from her usually politically driven comedy at this year’s fringe (because let's be honest, we’ve all had enough of that over the last few years) to take us on a hilarious journey of a lockdown spent in the Maldives.

Semi-Toned Presents: A Study in Burgandy | Semi-Toned
I know I’ve said this about improv but you also can’t do the Edinburgh Fringe properly without seeing a bit of A Cappella. Usually, you can do this by swanning up the royal mile and checking out the mobile stages but alas this year it’s a little more difficult to come by.

The Great Gatsby | The Wardrobe Ensemble and The Wardrobe Theatre
If you told me that the complete story of The Great Gatsby could be told in an hour and forty minutes with only 2 people working in a small studio with red cups for props, a sofa for seating and a couple of flats for set, I’d tell you it was madness, that it couldn’t possibly be done, you must be off your rocker! But this production is breathtaking!
